π EXCITING NEWS! π
We are absolutely delighted to announce that Alfreton Park School has been officially accredited as a Special Olympics Great Britain MATP Centre of Excellence!
This is a tremendous achievement β we are only the fourth school in the entire country to receive this prestigious recognition! π
What is MATP?
The Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) has been transforming lives at our school for the past two years, providing accessible and engaging physical activities carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of every pupil.
How we're making it work:
β¨ MATP is embedded in our weekly enrichment programme
β¨ It's now a core part of the PE curriculum on our pre-formal pathway
β¨ Every participating pupil has personalised ILP targets and physical & sensory goals
β¨ The programme is integrated into our medium and long-term planning
During our accreditation visit, the assessor was genuinely impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of both our amazing pupils and incredible staff!
A special thank you to Donna, our outstanding Therapy Link Worker, whose passion, hard work and unwavering commitment has made all of this possible. This simply wouldn't have happened without you! π
We couldn't be prouder of this achievement and are excited to continue developing and strengthening our MATP programme for all our students.

Oak Class had a wonderful time at the Catch-up Club in Swanwick, where they enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces! The Catch-up Club is a monthly social event for SEND families, held on the first Tuesday of each month. Our students had a fantastic time getting creative with crafts, playing games, and practicing important social skills.
As part of our ongoing focus on independent living skills, the class travelled there using public transport. They planned their route and confidently caught the bus β a brilliant real-world learning experience!π
A huge thank you to the Catch-up Club for welcoming us so warmly. We're already looking forward to our next visit!π ... See MoreSee Less

π We're so proud of one of our pupils from Rowan Class! π
A huge well done to Madison, who has been working hard alongside Matt to create 12 wonderful bird boxes. These have now been sold to the Duffield Millennium Meadow Project, where they'll provide homes for local wildlife.
Last Friday, Madison had the pleasure of handing over the homemade boxes to Lynn, who came into school to collect them. A big thank you also goes to Oscar, who was on hand to help with the handover!
It was lovely to see our pupils making such a positive contribution to the local community and environment. π¦π
Well done, Madison and Oscar - we're all so proud of you!

We had the privilege of working alongside Chris and Denise when one of their sons attended Alfreton Park - this award is so well deserved!! πππΌβ¨ Two magical people.π HUGE congratulations to retired Derbyshire foster carers Chris and Denise Mitchell who have received a British Citizen Award for services to their community.
π«Ά The couple have dedicated their lives to caring for some of the countyβs most vulnerable children.
β€οΈ After adopting three children with Down's syndrome as well as having their own two sons, they then went on to be foster carers for the county council for 14 years.
π₯° During that time they looked after newborn babies, many with complex medical needs requiring specialist care, during the most fragile time of their lives.
We hope their story might inspire others to think about fostering.
