Alfreton Park Community Special School Learning together for personal success
On Thursday 22nd September, Western Power will be interrupting the electricity supply to the buildings on Alfreton Park. We will open to staff at 10.30 to allow them to prepare for pupils, and pupils will arrive at 11.00. We will then close slightly early at 15.00 to ensure we don’t run into any trouble should the power go off at 15.30

School Council

Our School Council represents the views of all our pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.

The school highly values the view of its pupils and has a School Council made up of members elected from each class.

Our School Council represents the views of all our pupils. It gives the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.

The School Council meets regularly to discuss what the pupils like about school and what they would like to improve, as well as planning social events and fundraising activities. Additionally, they discuss items such as safety in school, and school dinners and other current issues. They contribute to Governors meetings, reporting back on their findings. They have also voiced their opinions on what they would like to see in our new school.

Here are our new School Council representatives for this academic year, and some of the first jobs that have kept us busy this term:

  • We have helped to take photos of pupils eating together, to contribute to the Gold Food for Life Award that the school is working towards.
  • Oak Class and Larch Class have completed the Derbyshire Youth Network questionnaire on Careers support, jobs and other opportunities, and thinking about what support they would like in this area.
  • Having discussed the question ‘Do we feel safe in school?’ at the first meeting, the School Council voted to give all our pupils the opportunity to think about this and other aspects of school. This is what our pupils said 😊
