Computing Lead

Our Vision

At Alfreton Park Special School, our vision for Computing and ICT is to empower every learner to explore, create and communicate confidently in an increasingly digital world. We recognise that technology plays a vital role in modern life, and we aim to equip all pupils aged 3–19 with the digital skills, confidence and understanding they need for learning, independence and future opportunities.

Our Computing curriculum is delivered through Purple Mash, an engaging, inclusive and accessible platform that supports pupils of all abilities. Purple Mash provides a safe and motivating digital environment where pupils can develop their skills across a wide range of subjects, including computing, English, mathematics and science, while also encouraging creativity, curiosity and independent learning.

Through Purple Mash, pupils are able to:

  • explore new ideas and topics in an interactive and meaningful way
  • create and express their thoughts using a range of digital tools
  • practise and apply key skills at their own pace
  • access learning both in school and at home, supporting continuity and family engagement

We believe that ICT should be a powerful tool for independence, expression and connection. By integrating computing across the wider curriculum, pupils are given regular opportunities to use technology purposefully and enjoyably, supporting communication, problem-solving and creativity. Our inclusive approach ensures that every pupil, regardless of need or ability, can participate, achieve and experience success.

Online safety is a key priority within our ICT provision. Our computing curriculum runs alongside a dedicated online safety programme, helping pupils to understand how to stay safe in the digital world. Learning is carefully adapted and reinforced to ensure pupils develop an age- and stage-appropriate understanding of safe, responsible and respectful technology use.

Through our ICT curriculum, pupils build confidence in using digital tools, develop skills that support future learning and employment, and gain the foundations needed to thrive in a digitally connected society. Above all, our aim is for pupils to use technology with confidence, curiosity and enjoyment, now and in the future.
