PE Vision
At Alfreton Park School, our Physical Education curriculum offers pupils a broad, inclusive range of sports and physical activities that enable every child to succeed, regardless of their starting point or individual needs. Through carefully planned and engaging experiences, pupils develop physical skills, teamwork, resilience, and confidence, while fostering a lifelong positive attitude towards physical activity. We place strong emphasis on promoting health, wellbeing, and personal achievement, ensuring that PE supports pupils’ physical, emotional, and social development and enhances the wider curriculum.
We recognise that participation in sport contributes significantly to improved focus, behaviour, and self-esteem, positively impacting learning across all subject areas. Through sport and physical education, pupils also develop essential transferable skills such as communication, leadership, and perseverance, enriching their overall school experience and preparing them for life beyond the classroom.
Our PE curriculum establishes clear starting points and end points for skill development, allowing pupils to build on prior knowledge and make sustained progress over time. Progress across all four pathways is consistently tracked using B-levels as the standard measure, alongside elements from recognised frameworks such as MATP, the EYFS Framework, and the Key Stage 1 and 2 National Curriculum. While each pathway is aligned to a specific framework, flexibility is maintained to ensure the curriculum can be adapted and extended to best support individual pupil development.
We provide clear links between our curriculum and real-world settings to enrich pupils’ learning experiences and support progression beyond school. Opportunities are created for pupils to access specialist facilities, coaching, and competitive environments across a range of activities, enabling them to apply their skills in meaningful, social, and aspirational contexts. These experiences help pupils understand how physical skills can transfer into wider participation, both recreationally and competitively.
Pupil achievement is celebrated through physical awards that recognise individual progress, effort, and resilience. These successes are shared during Celebration Assemblies, where pupils receive certificates and positive feedback in front of the wider school community. Inclusive Sports Days further reinforce our commitment to participation and success for all, ensuring that every pupil can take part meaningfully and experience achievement regardless of ability.
