RE Vision for Website
At our school, Religious Education is an inspiring journey of awe and wonder, curiosity and discovery. As a special school for pupils aged 3–19, we believe R.E. plays a vital role in supporting every child and young person to understand themselves, others and the wider world in a meaningful and accessible way.
Our R.E. curriculum is deeply rooted in our school values:
We are caring. We are brave. We aim high.
We follow an adapted version of the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2025), carefully tailored to meet the diverse needs, abilities and learning styles of all our pupils. This ensures that R.E. is inclusive, accessible and meaningful, while maintaining high expectations and progression for every learner.
Through R.E., pupils are encouraged to be caring by learning about kindness, empathy, compassion and respect for others, including those whose beliefs, cultures and life experiences may be different from their own. We celebrate diversity and promote tolerance, helping pupils to feel a sense of belonging and to value both themselves and others.
R.E. supports pupils to be brave by exploring big questions about life, beliefs and values. Pupils are given safe, supportive opportunities to ask questions, express their thoughts and feelings, and reflect on what matters to them. Whether pupils follow a particular religion or not, R.E. helps them to develop confidence in their own identity and beliefs.
We encourage pupils to aim high by developing their understanding of right and wrong and forming their own moral code. R.E. helps pupils to make informed choices, to think about how their actions affect others, and to consider how they can contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
R.E. is brought to life through termly R.E. Days, which provide exciting, immersive experiences, alongside a wide range of cross-curricular links and enrichment opportunities throughout the year. These experiences support engagement, deepen understanding and create meaningful learning moments for all pupils, regardless of need or ability.
Through learning about religions, worldviews and ways of life, pupils gain a broader understanding of the world around them. R.E. also opens doors to future pathways and aspirations, including careers linked to helping and supporting others, such as volunteering, community work and service-based roles.
Above all, R.E. at our school is about helping pupils to grow into thoughtful, tolerant and compassionate individuals who are prepared to live fulfilling lives in a diverse and ever-changing world.
