Our Vision
Our vision for RSHE is to empower every pupil to become confident, safe, and as independent as possible in their daily lives. We believe that all pupils—deserve access to high-quality Relationships, Sex and Health Education that supports their personal development, wellbeing, and preparation for adulthood.
We deliver our RSHE curriculum through an adapted version of the PSHE Association framework, ensuring it is accessible, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate for all pupils. This approach enables us to maintain a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that reflects statutory expectations while meeting the diverse needs within our school.
Our adapted RSHE curriculum is taught in a clear, sequential manner, allowing pupils to build on prior knowledge and develop essential skills over time. Content is carefully differentiated to ensure that learning is appropriate for each of our pathways, enabling every pupil—regardless of their starting point—to make progress and acquire the skills needed for safety, wellbeing, independence and preparing for adulthood.
Through this structured and inclusive approach, RSHE remains a core part of our wider personal development offer and supports the holistic growth of all pupils in our school.
Our RSHE curriculum provides pupils with the knowledge, understanding, and life skills they need to:
- Build positive and meaningful relationships,
- Recognise and manage their emotions,
- Stay safe both in school and in the wider community,
- Make healthy choices, and
- Develop independence in self-care and daily life routines.
We are committed to delivering RSHE in a way that is inclusive, accessible, respectful, and personalised, meeting each pupil at their developmental stage. Through adapted teaching approaches, real-world experiences, and consistent reinforcement across the school day, we ensure that RSHE is both functional and relevant to our pupils’ individual needs.
Our vision is for pupils to leave our school with:
- The confidence to communicate their needs, feelings, and choices,
- An understanding of their own bodies and personal boundaries,
- The skills to form safe and appropriate relationships,
- Improved emotional wellbeing and self-esteem, and
- The ability to navigate a changing world with resilience and independence.
Our RSHE curriculum is underpinned by our core school values: We are caring, we are brave, and we aim high. These values shape our approach, guide our expectations, and influence the way pupils learn about themselves, others, and the world around them.
We are caring
In RSHE, we learn to show kindness, empathy and respect towards others. Pupils develop an understanding of feelings, friendships, teamwork and supportive relationships. Being caring helps pupils recognise the importance of compassion, positive communication, and treating everyone with dignity.
We are brave
RSHE encourages pupils to be brave by trying new experiences, developing independence, and learning to express their needs, feelings and opinions. Pupils learn to face challenges, make safe choices, and build resilience. Being brave means having the confidence to ask for help, set boundaries, and keep themselves safe.
We aim high
In RSHE, we aim high by striving for personal growth, independence and lifelong skills. Pupils are encouraged to set goals, work towards their EHCP outcomes, and make progress in communication, emotional regulation, relationships and self-care. We want every pupil to reach their full potential and prepare for a safe, healthy and fulfilling future.
Together, these values ensure that our RSHE curriculum is nurturing, empowering and aspirational for all pupils across our school pathways.
