Lucy – EYFS Lead

Our Early Years class in Acorns.  Acorn class follow a three-year thematic cycle of topics that reflects the children’s interests, so they experience a breadth of rich, meaningful learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of our pupils.  It is in alignment with the 2025 EYFS Statutory Framework and our school values of Being Caring, Being Brave and Aiming High.

The EYFS curriculum is underpinned by the 7 areas of learning and development.  There are 3 prime areas, seen as particularly important for building curiosity, pupils’ capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.  These areas are

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Emotional and Social Development
  • Physical Development

The prime areas are strengthened and applied through 4 specific areas:

  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

Our EYFS curriculum is deliberately structured to support the development of sustained attention.  Through predictable routines, repetition and multi-sensory experiences, we create opportunities for the children to remain engaged with people, objects and activities for increasing periods of time.

Pupils learn in a free-flow environment, with multi-sensory resources and activities provided in the indoor and outdoor environment at all times.

At Alfreton Park, we believe pupils thrive when strong home-school partnerships are formed.  Parent partnership is encouraged through various means such as, using Class Dojo as a communication tool, inviting parents into school for Stay and Play sessions, parent workshops and maintaining an on-going dialogue.

By the end of EYFS, we aim for all our pupils to be well prepared for the next stage of their education and ready to continue their learning journey.
