Geography Vision
We want our children to feel excited and curious about the world around them. Through geography, pupils explore different places, people, and environments in ways that are engaging, meaningful, and relevant to their own lives. We help children understand where they live, how others live, and how we all share and depend on our planet. Geography encourages pupils to think about what matters to them, how to care for others, and how to look after the world, helping them grow into thoughtful, caring citizens.
At Alfreton Park, we teach Geography as a discrete subject in our Formal Pathway using an adapted version of the Learning Challenge Curriculum. Learning is driven by big questions that spark curiosity, encourage enquiry, and deepen understanding. Pupils are supported to ask questions, investigate places and environments, make connections, and reflect on what they discover. Learning builds over time, allowing children to revisit and deepen their understanding while developing key geographical skills such as map reading, fieldwork, observation, and enquiry.
Geography at our school promotes respect for diversity and celebrates differences between people, cultures, and environments. Pupils learn to appreciate both the similarities and differences across the world and develop a sense of responsibility for their local area and the wider global community. Through real-life contexts and purposeful learning challenges, children begin to understand their role in shaping a sustainable future.
Our vision is for geography to inspire curiosity, develop knowledge and skills, and empower pupils to understand the world they live in. By nurturing enquiry, empathy, and environmental awareness, we support children to become informed, responsible, and active global citizens who are confident to explore, question, and care for the world around them.
