Our Vision
At Alfreton Park, our vision is rooted in curiosity. We want every child to be inquisitive about themselves, their community, and the wider world. Through rich, meaningful experiences, pupils develop a growing sense of identity and belonging—my family, my local place, my world—and begin to understand how the past shapes the present.
For our formal learners, we use an adapted version of The Learning Challenge for History. This is our only subject-specific pathway, enabling pupils to explore historical concepts in depth, build a sense of chronology, and develop the skills of enquiry, interpretation, and critical thinking. Formal learners study diverse individuals who have made significant contributions to society, helping them recognise how ambition and resilience can inspire their own futures. They learn to ask thoughtful questions, consider evidence, understand reliability, and reflect on how and why the world has changed over time.
Our pre-formal, informal and semi-formal learners access Understanding the World sessions, aligned with the EYFS framework and also informed by The Learning Challenge Curriculum. These sessions focus on a broader experience of the world: noticing change, understanding themselves and others, exploring their immediate environment, and developing early foundations for social awareness, cultural understanding, and empathy. Through daily routines and practical exploration—hour to hour, day to day—pupils experience concepts such as timetables, growing, and changes in ways that are meaningful and accessible.
Across all pathways, we aim to help pupils understand how life has evolved, what we can learn from the experiences of others, and how positive contributions shape communities. Children come to recognise trustworthy information, appreciate diversity, and develop respectful relationships. By nurturing enquiry, encouraging curiosity, and celebrating stories from the past and present, we prepare learners for their futures—empowering them to flourish as thoughtful, informed, and compassionate individuals.
